We Took a Trip to the (Virtual) Races

A trip to the virtual races at Foxholes Care Home in Hertfordshire
As a young boy, our beloved Alf spent his days dreaming of becoming a jockey. A lifelong goal that, unfortunately, was never fulfilled, so the team here at Foxholes decided to surprise Alf with his first-ever visit to the Grand National!

And then the coronavirus pandemic hit, cancelling all major sporting events across the world, including the Grand National, leaving Alf (and us all) unable to attend the big day.

Embracing Technology at Foxholes

Having recently implemented Facebook Portal here at Foxholes, we are far from being a bunch of luddites! And so, we embraced our new-found tech prowess and brought the races to Alf. And by doing so, Alf’s trip to aintree turned into an adventure for us all… albeit to the living room!

We set up our lounge, turned on the TV and prepared for the races to take place. We even created mock bookies tickets, and held sweepstakes throughout the duration of the event (no real cash was used of course!).

Excitement Mounted at the Races

And as Potters Corner won the spectacular steeplechase, our excited Alf, exclaimed: “What a surprise that was! I didn’t expect to feel as if I was there… I was made to feel as if I was right in the thick of it. It might not have been the real thing but I can’t thank the home enough for trying to fulfil my dream, despite what is going on in the world at the moment.”

Encouraging all that live at Foxholes to share their wishes is something we do on a regular basis. And we truly believe that life does not stop when you move into a care home. I think those that live here, like our darling Alf, would certainly agree that the experiences at Foxholes are unlike any other!

If you’d like to enquire about care for your family member, do get in touch here.

And hopefully, we can make their dream come true too.
